Initial Fundraising Campaign

In 2020, the City of Asheville and Buncombe County established the Community Reparations Commission (CDC), a Black-led, community-driven entity tasked with examining historical injustices and current disparities affecting Black residents in Asheville and Buncombe County. The commission was also empowered to recommend actionable solutions. Among the 39 recommendations made was the creation of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to continue the commission's work, oversee the progress of initiatives, and either support or lead projects based on the commission's recommendations. The 40 Acres in the Land of the Sky Alliance CDC (40 Acres LOTSA) is the realization of this recommendation.

We are a group of seven former CDC commissioners, deeply familiar with the commission's recommendations, who have dedicated the past four years to this endeavor. We are committed to supporting

the effort to transform Asheville and Buncombe County into the equitable, diverse, and inclusive community it aspires to be.

We invite you to join us in our mission to create opportunities for generational wealth-building, implement affordable housing solutions, enhance access to culturally responsive healthcare, reimagine educational institutions to serve our youth equitably, and reform public safety systems.

Presently, we have a donor who has pledged $1,000 and will match donations up to an additional $1,000. We aim to raise these funds and more to enable our organization to commence the reparative work owed to Black Asheville.
